Intro

Hey! I'm Kevin Williams (on the right), an Applied Mathematics major at Florida State University who's been writing code since the age of 8 and haven't stopped building things since. I focus on data engineering: designing systems that move, store, and make sense of data at scale.

Most of my projects start with a real problem I want to solve - whether that's a serverless analytics pipeline on AWS or a quantitative finance tool built from scratch. Check out my recent projects to see what I've been working on.

Projects

Black-Scholes Pricing Engine

A from-scratch implementation of the Black-Scholes-Merton (BSM) pricing model built to understand quantitative finance through the lens of applied mathematics — specifically how multivariable calculus and PDEs map directly to real financial instruments. Connects to live market data to back-solve implied volatility and surface potential mispricings against historical volatility.

Serverless News Analytics Platform

Event-driven serverless platform built with AWS Lambda that ingests and analyzes news articles from multiple sources. Features async processing with SQS, Redis-based deduplication (30-50% storage savings), Parquet data lake on S3, and SQL analytics via Athena. Includes EventBridge scheduled ingestion, API Gateway rate limiting, and comprehensive Terraform IaC. Migrated from ECS to Lambda achieving 60-75% cost reduction while maintaining scalability.

Cloud Portfolio Website with Terraform & AWS

Built a cloud-native portfolio website deployed on AWS using S3, CloudFront CDN, and Terraform Infrastructure as Code. Implemented automated CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions using OIDC authentication, security headers, and CloudFront OAI for secure content delivery.

Technical Skills

  • Cloud: AWS (S3, Lambda, ECS/Fargate, DynamoDB, Athena, SQS, EventBridge, CloudFront, IAM, VPC)
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform
  • Containers: Docker, Kubernetes
  • Data Engineering: pandas, numpy, PostgreSQL, Parquet, data ingestion pipelines
  • CI/CD: GitHub Actions
  • Programming: Python, Bash
  • Tools: Git, Linux, Neovim

I believe in continuous learning and hands-on experimentation. When I'm not working on cloud projects, I'm exploring new tools, contributing to GitHub repositories, or diving into statistical computing challenges.
